Dear Patients,

As summer is upon us, Dr. Irwin, Dianne and Elizabeth would like to remind patients to protect their precious smile all summer long. Here are some helpful tips and suggestions:

Minimize your intake of carbonated beverages and drink plenty of water! Beverages such as soda wear away at your enamel, and cause health problems such as diabetes and heart disease. Instead drink plenty of water, this will protect your smile and help you stay hydrated.

Be mindful of sensitive teeth and gums. We all enjoy a nice cold, ice cream cone on a scorching summer day. However patients experiencing sensitivity should be careful when enjoying these tasty treats. Extreme temperatures (both hot and cold) can lead to significant pain and/or discomfort.

Remember to floss! While we may enjoy a nice barbecue, be mindful that food such as steak and corn are more prone to getting stuck in between teeth and gums. Flossing regularly will help promote good hygiene, and avoid cavities as well as gum disease.

As always, Dr. Irwin and her supportive staff are here to answer any questions you may have; including helping you find out if your dental insurance policy covers custom athletic mouthguards and bite guards, braces, and other corrective treatments that can help improve your bite and overall oral health.

Best Wishes,

Brighter Smiles Dental – The Office of Dr. Sylvia Irwin
