Dear Patients,

The use of fluoride-containing products is a proven safe and effective means of preventing tooth decay. However, the water in our area is not fluoridated. For over 60 years the America Dental Association has endorsed the fluoridation of the public water supply, furthermore the majority of bottled waters on the market do not contain optimal levels of fluoride. Fluoride is contained in most toothpastes, and supplemental fluoride rinses are available without a prescription.

For children who are prone to decay, we can prescribe vitamins with added fluoride. For adults who are prone to decay or have exposed root surfaces, prescription toothpaste with a higher concentration of fluoride is advised. Please feel free to discuss fluoridation with us at your next dental visit.
